Welcome to The Merlyn Group!

We bring a very different approach to IT organizational performance improvement. We believe management consulting has fallen short in delivering sustainable value to clients. While IT leaders deal with ever increasing complexity, they find themselves with ever shrinking bandwidth. Finding calendar time for team activities is a growing challenge.

We believed there was a better way to collaborate  with clients,  within clients and with business partners  to capture and refine "organizational knowledge" and use that to increase organizational clarity and drive strategic focus.

With the advent of social media such as semantic wikis, we are building that better way - we call it Symcordia™  from the root words Sym (together) and Concordia (harmony). It's more than just semantics!

From Stagnant to Living Deliverables

Initiatives such as IT strategy development or operating model refresh typically create a host of deliverables, usually as PowerPoint decks, Visio diagrams and so on. Unfortunately, these quickly become stale. Linkages are lost over time, and the knowledge and meaning expressed within the documents soon lose their value.

The Merlyn Group enables its work with Symcordia™ a Semantic Wiki that stays with our clients so that:

  • They have a 'single version of the truth' of their important organizational knowledge - continuously updated and collaboratively improved.
  • Symcordia™ has an underlying semantic model of the knowledge it holds, thereby capturing its meaning and enhancing its value.
  • Knowledge captured becomes an active asset - shaping behavior, rather than simply being passive documentation.

From Participation by the Few to Participation by the Many

IT performance improvement initiatives typically begin with a few select managers and executives in workshops. The Merlyn Group leverages Symcordia™ to supplement workshops, thereby:

  • Engaging a broader community of stakeholders everyone has a voice!
  • Reaching across geographies to reduce or eliminate travel overheads better results at reduced costs.
  • Global enterprises can 'follow the sun' maximizing velocity and speed to results.

From Design then Deploy to Rapid Iterative Design-Deploy Cycles

Performance improvement programs face massive organizational change management challenges, as stakeholders are enrolled in the change. Our collaborative wiki-enabled approach takes advantage of Symcordia™ in order to:

  • Facilitate more parallelism between design and deployment by engaging stakeholders.
  • Capture the 'wisdom of the crowd' leading to better results that are more readily adopted.
  • Reduce 'resistance to change' people don't resist change - they resist being changed! By engaging them, they become part of the change, not victims of it!
